This galaxy and our neighbor of the Andromeda galaxy herald the true fall nights atop Mount Lemmon. This deep exposure of the central region begins to resolve some features and stellar associations in the galaxy. Still, there is much more that is "partially" resolved giving this galaxy its characteristic grainy countenance. NGC 604, one of the Universe's largest known nebulae, glows brilliantly in the upper right of the frame. The grayscale version is the picture of the galaxy in only the red wavelengths of light that the hydrogen gas in the galaxy emits. This picture highlights the star forming cloud of the galaxy as well as the many supernovae remnants that appear as huge bubbles formed after a star blows up.
